Abstract | ||||
Background: Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is an inflammatory disease that primarily affects small,symmetrical joints.This happens to a lot of women.The diverse symptoms associated with this condition can potentially harm multiple organ systems and lead to severe health issues. Aim of the work:This research aimed to evaluate the relationship between RA activity and parameters such as neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR),platelet to lymphocyte ratio(PLR),and CD55 expression on neutrophils. Subjects and Methods:The present research was executed in the Faculty of Medicine,Clinical Pathology Department at Minia University.There were 90 participants in the trial;groups Ia and Ib consisted of 30 patients with high disease activity(Disease Activity Score 28)([DAS28]>5.1)and30 patients with mild disease activity(DAS28:2.6-3.2),respectively.Thirty healthy individuals served as the control group(group II).Flow cytometry was used to evaluate CD55 expression on neutrophils in all individuals in addition to other routine laboratory tests included CBC with differential count,rheumatoid factor(RF),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR) 1st hour and liver enzymes(AST,ALT). Results:Group Ia exhibited statistically significant decline in CD55 expression when compared to group Ib.Compared to control group,group Ia and Ib exhibited statistically significant decline in CD55 expression on neutrophils,while(DAS28&ESR 1st hour,NLR and PLR)showed significant negative correlations with CD55 expression on neutrophils.The 1st hour of ESR,NLR and DAS28 were positively correlated only in group Ia.PLR,DAS28 and ESR1st hour only showed a statistically significant positive correlation in group Ia. Conclusion: CD55expression can be used as a sign of disease activity and is linked to RA etiology and patient follow-up.Using NLR and PLR as inflammatory biomarkers could evaluate the degree of disease activity in individuals with active RA. | ||||
