Abstract | ||||
Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory arthropathy that presents with inflammation of the joints and enthesitis, often including the spine and/or sacroiliac joints. Purpose: to investigate the combined effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on the quality of life in patients with psoriatic arthritis. Materials and methods: sixty-six patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, of both genders, their age ranged from 30 to 50, The participants were recruited from Alkasr eleiny hospital, Cairo, Egypt and were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group A included 22 patients who received 30 minutes of aerobic exercises using a treadmill, 2 sessions per week for 12 weeks, Group B included 22 patients who received 30 minutes of resistance exercises for upper limb, lower limb and trunk by using dumbbells and sandbags of different weights, 2 sessions per week for 12 weeks, Group C who received a combination of both aerobic and resistance training. Hand grip strength in the dominant hand and quality of life were measured by digital handheld dynamometer and 36-item short form survey respectively. All these outcome measures were recorded at baseline and after 12 weeks of intervention. Results: following 12 weeks of treatment, group C exhibited significant improvement outcome measures compared to group A and B. Conclusion: combined therapy of aerobic and resistance exercises counting into routine physical therapy may yield better results for patients with PsA than each treatment alone. | ||||
