Abstract | ||||
With rapid technological advancements, the Internet of Things (IoT) has become essential in smart tourist cities, enhancing service quality, resource management, and sustainability. This study explores IoT opportunities, identifies implementation challenges, and proposes innovative solutions. IoT technologies improve transportation systems, crowd management, and emergency response. Smart sensors monitor tourist flow, air quality, and energy consumption, enabling data-driven decisions to enhance tourism experiences and support sustainability. However, challenges include high infrastructure costs, data privacy concerns, and the lack of unified regulations. Additionally, some cities lack the technical and human resources for effective implementation. The study analyzes these challenges through literature review and case studies of Barcelona and Singapore, offering forward-looking models for sustainable smart cities. Findings suggest that expanding IoT usage improves tourism services, visitor satisfaction, and economic opportunities. For instance, autonomous vehicles and smart guidance systems reduce congestion and enhance mobility. To support implementation, the study recommends developing supportive policies, fostering public-private partnerships, and providing financial incentives for tourism technology investments. Additionally, it highlights the importance of workforce training and community awareness. Balancing technology with environmental and social needs enables cities to become smart and sustainable destinations, enhancing tourist experiences and boosting the tourism sector’s contribution to economic and social development. This research serves as a key reference for policymakers and researchers in smart cities and sustainable tourism. | ||||
