| Background: Topical intraocular pressure (IOP) reducing medical treatment is the first-line treatment for glaucoma, the second most common etiology of blindness globally. Nevertheless, topical antiglaucoma eye drops over an extended period might cause aberrant tear film, conjunctival irritation, and corneal epitheliopathy.Aim: This study aimed to employ anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to acquire insight into the alterations in the corneal epithelium in glaucomatous cases taking anti-glaucomatous medicines. Patients and Methods: The study enrolled 56 eyes of 32 subjects classified into two groups. The patient group involved 28 eyes of 16 cases with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), and the other group consisted of 28 healthy eyes of 16 subjects for comparison of corneal epithelial thickness (CET) by AS-OCT with the patient group. Results: All parameters of CET in the glaucomatous group showed a significant decrease (p <0.001) except maximum CET, which was reduced in the glaucomatous group with a less insignificant value. This may result from a non-uniform reduction of corneal ET. Conclusion: Glaucoma lowered CET when compared to controls. This decline is evident in the cornea's superior and inferior sections. | ||||
