Abstract
A trial was consummated under semi-shade place at the nursery of Hort. Res. Inst., ARC, Giza, Egypt during 2023 and 2024 to reveal the response of Japanese Pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira (Thunb.) W.T. Aiton “Variegata”) planted in 20-cm-diameter plastic pots to 3 different growing media, sand (S), S + compost and S + clay mixtures at (2:1, v/v)  to 3 water amounts (200, 250 and 300 ml/plant) twice a week and their interactions on growth and aesthetic value of such ornamental plant when produce as a pot-plant.The results indicated that means of survival % and vegetative and root growth traits were maximized either by planting in sand alone or by irrigating with the lowest level of water (200 ml/plant). So, combining between planting in sandy medium and irrigation with 200 ml/plant water treatment attained the highest survival % and best growth in the two seasons. These because survival and growth rate of such plant are high and rapid in well-drained light soils. As the root rot quickly infects and kills the root system on poorly drained or wet soil. However, great variables were obtained in respect to the effect of various treatments on leaf chemical constituents. Hence, it could be advised to planting Japanese Pittosporum transplants in the sand only and irrigating them with only 200 ml water/plant/20-cm-diameter pot twice a week to obtain the best growth and picturesque potted plants.
