Abstract | ||||
Background: Aortic valve replacement (AVR) has been done since the 1950s. Since that, the AVR procedure has been optimized to decrease the risks of its complications. This study aimed to compare the early haemodynamic outcomes and post-operative echocardiographic (ECHO) follow up after AVR by the two aortic valve types; On-x and saint Jude in the size 19 mm. Methods: This prospective study included 100 patients with mechanical AVR through standard median sternotomy recruited from Benha university hospital and Damietta cardiac surgery center. Patients were divided into 2 equal groups using software generated program groups: On-X group: patients underwent AVR using an On-X mechanical valve. Saint jude medical (SJM) group: patients underwent AVR using regent mechanical aortic valve. Results: It shows no statistically significant difference among both studied groups as regard early postoperative and late complications. Conclusion: Our study revealed that both On-x and Saint Jude valve types had comparable hemodynamic outcomes. The slight advantage observed in the On-X valve may warrant further investigation, but overall, the findings support that both valves can be effectively utilized in clinical practice without significant differences in early hemodynamic outcomes. | ||||
