Abstract | ||||
This study explores the significance of glass as a primary material within modern and contemporary artistic practices, particularly in movements that integrate diverse materials and techniques. Glass offers artists a wide range of possibilities, including its transparency, ability to manipulate light, and versatility in forming and shaping. These properties allow artists to incorporate glass in innovative ways alongside other materials, creating dynamic contrasts between the smooth, transparent brilliance of glass and the varied textures of other media. As a result, glass has emerged as a powerful expressive medium for contemporary artists seeking to achieve a unified and innovative visual language that emphasizes both the material’s inherent qualities and its functional potential. The evolution of glass-forming and fusing techniques has further diversified its artistic applications. New types of glass and the integration of modern technologies have freed the artistic process from traditional constraints, opening new avenues for creative experimentation. This research highlights contemporary approaches to glass by artists from Europe and North America, showcasing the diversity in material integration and surface treatment. Their practices span a wide range of artistic forms, including portable paintings,and three-dimensional sculptures. | ||||
