Abstract | ||||
Background: Traumatic brain injury represents a severe type of trauma, constituting 6% to 8% of all documented cases globally. Aim of the study: The objective of this research is to assess the impact of instructional guidelines on the outcomes of patients with traumatic brain injury. Setting: This study was carried out in the Trauma ICU at Beni Suef University Hospital, Egypt. Sample: A convenient sample of 50 patients who were admitted to the Trauma ICU was included. Design: A quasi-experimental design was employed (pre and post-one group). Tools: Tool: (1) Patients' personal and medical assessment sheet; Tool: (2) Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS); Tool: (3) Pupil Reactivity and Pupil Size Assessment Scale. Results: A statistically significant enhancement in the level of consciousness was observed before and after the application of instructional guidelines (p <0.001). Furthermore, pupil reactivity showed a highly statistically significant difference between the pre and post-application of instructional guidelines (P = 0.001). Conclusion: The application of instructional guidelines positively influences the levels of consciousness and enhances pupil reactivity in patients with traumatic brain injury. Recommendations: It is advisable to provide instructional guidelines to patients with traumatic brain injury to facilitate improvements in their clinical outcomes. | ||||
