Abstract | ||||
Abstract Objectives: This study aimed to assess the histological outcome of pulp tissue capped by Propolis, Biodentine, and TheraCal. Materials and methods: The assessment was conducted on eight dogs which classified into four equal groups each group consist of two dogs according to the time of sacrificing and examination after one month and three months. Each group was subdivided into 4 subgroups according to capping material: Propolis, Biodentine, TheraCal and Teflon as control group, 64 teeth were used, all capping materials were used in each animal, after ending of each evaluation period, the animals were euthanized then teeth were extracted and subjected to histological evaluation and scoring to evaluate inflammatory response, dentine bridge formation and fibrosis of pulp tissue. Results: TheraCal elicited the most pronounced inflammatory response, whereas Propolis results were the least inflammation, All three materials stimulated the formation of dentin bridges, which close the exposure, however the Biodentine material induces a more efficient dentin bridges, with a significant difference compared to the other two materials, all three materials lead to the development of fibrosis in the pulp tissue. However, TheraCal material causes a minimal degree of fibrosis, with a significant difference compared to the other two materials. Conclusion: within the limitations of this study, it could be concluded that Biodentine is the best of three materials regarding dentine bridge formation and collagen fibers distribution but TheraCal is the worst as it cause high degree of inflammation and the low amount of dentine bridge formation although Propolis material was midway between them. | ||||
