Abstract | ||||
Records management is a fundamental pillar of institutional operations across various sectors. As a result, governing artificial intelligence (AI) practices in records management is a priority for organizations to mitigate risks such as bias, misleading data, and other challenges that could impact their operations and systems. However, the official Egyptian work environment has yet to establish clear and formal guidelines for AI practices in records management. To address this gap, this study employs a descriptive-analytical approach to regulate AI practices in records management for Egyptian institutions. The researcher analyzed various Egyptian legislations governing records management and the digital information environment to assess the extent to which they support AI applications in managing records. The study found that while Egyptian legislation does provide some support for AI in records management, there remains a lack of specialized laws addressing the processing of digital and smart records in their intermediate and historical stages. Consequently, the study concludes by proposing a guide for AI practices in records management, aligned with Egyptian legislation, to help organizations implement smart records management systems in an official and regulated manner. | ||||
