Abstract | ||
Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is severe medical condition. It has been shown that albiflorin (ALB) has potent pharmacological effects in preventing oxidation, inflammation, and apoptosis. Objective: to evaluate the possible underlying mechanisms and the protective effect of ALB in STZ-induced DN. Materials and Methods: There were three groups of thirty adult male albino rats: control, DN, and DN+ALB (10/group). blood levels of glucose, glycosylated Hb A1c, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, creatinine, renal SOD, creatinine clearance, renal MDA, renal TNF-α, renal IL-6, and renal genes expression of TLR4 and NF-kB. Additionally, immunohistochemical and renal histopathology analyses were carried out. Results: Serum levels of glucose, glycosylated Hb A1c, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, and creatinine were significantly elevated in conjunction with urine albumin, renal MDA, renal TNF-α, renal IL-6, and renal genes TLR4 and NF-kB expression of DN in comparison to the control. It also significantly decreased creatinine clearance values and renal SOD expression. Furthermore, compared to the control, the DN group's TLR4 and NF-kB immunoreactions were both increased. The STZ-induced DN alterations significantly improved in the DN+ALB group. Conclusion: ALB offers substantial protection against STZ-induced DN through hypoglycemic, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms as well as the down-regulation of TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway. | ||
