Abstract | ||||
CoV-2 virus is one of the most challenging infections in the recent era making surveillance and infection control mandatory. To do that we have to understand the particle size distribution in the air and patterns, life span of environmental contamination of SARS-CoV-2. Control of the clinical sequalae of the CoV-2 infection can be achieved by a more conductive infection control measures which require knowledge of the biochemical kinetics and nature of the virus. The study aims to clarify the specific infection sources (air, surface, etc..) and life span of the virus in the working environment thus specifying infection control measures and isolation timings along with minimizing nosocomial infection among patients and healthcare workers. Our study is a multicentric observational study performed in Egypt in general organization of teaching hospitals and institutes where 216 air samples and 216 surface samples obtained from Intensive care units where CoV-2 confirmed patients were admitted for 4 successive days during the period from May 2022 till April 2024 where 208 (96.5%) of the air samples were negative and only 3.7% were positive. In the surface samples arm, 28.7% of the samples were positive and 71.2% were negative. On day 3, 3% of the whole samples were positive while 13% were positive on day 4. We concluded that peri CoV-2 patients’ environment is a potential source of infection transmission for at least 4 days of admission which require proper surface dis-contamination, air filtration as well as basic infection control measures among patients and healthcare workers. | ||||
