| Abstract | ||||
| Abstract Two field trials were conducted at the experimental research and production station of National Research Centre, El–Nubaria region, Beheira Governorate, Egypt in 2022 and 2023 seasons to assess the physiological and agronomic performances of two sesame cultivars (Sohag and Shandwell) to selenium application (with Se, Se+ and without Se, Se–) under three irrigation regimes (I100, I85 and I70). In summary, the findings demonstrated that under moderate and severe drought in both seasons, the Shandwell cultivar had greater levels of carotenoids with Se+ than Se–, as well as higher levels of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. When Se was applied, Sohag's antioxidant enzyme activity (SOD and CAT) significantly decreased in both seasons, while Shandwell's antioxidant enzyme activity decreased in both seasons for SOD and CAT in the first season. Despite Sohag was more efficient for producing higher seed yield, the increase percentage due to Se application was greater in Shandwell. | ||||
