Abstract | ||||
Introduction: Spirulina or (Arthrospira) has been the subject of a recent study demonstrating its promise as a nutrient-dense, sustainable food source with various health advantages. Objectives: This review summarizes research results published until 2024 on spirulina's nutritional profile, bioactive components, and medicinal uses. Methodology: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, synthesizing peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and scientific publications focusing on spirulina's nutritional profile, physiological effects, and therapeutic potential. Results: Spirulina is a rich source of proteins, vitamins, minerals, vital amino acids, and antioxidants. Spirulina as a dietary supplement has demonstrated encouraging effects in studies, supporting immune function, reducing inflammation, and lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Furthermore, spirulina can help with diabetes management, cardiovascular health, antibacterial activity, and supportive therapy as an anti-cancer. Conclusion: This review highlights the potential of spirulina as a functional food and nutraceutical, although it emphasizes the need for further comprehensive research to fully understand its safety, effectiveness, and mechanisms of action in various health contexts. | ||||
