Abstract | ||||
Background: High-quality menstrual health and hygiene management are essential throughout menstruation as it improve the self-assurance of deaf and mute adolescent girls in several ways. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the educational program about menstrual health and hygiene management on the awareness of deaf and mute adolescent girls. Subjects and methods: Quasi-experimental research design was used. It was conducted in Al-Amal Schools in Qena and Ismailia Governorates. The total number of the studied sample was 91 girls which included (63 girls in Qena Governorate and 28 girls in Ismailia Governorate). The Governorates were selected through simple random sampling technique and purposive sample technique was used to choose the students. Two tools were used. Tool I: Self-administered questionnaire which consisted of three parts; part (1): Socio demographic data, part (2): Knowledge towards menstruation, and part (3): Self-reported practice to assess menstrual health and hygiene management. Tool II: Attitude scale to determine the attitude toward menstrual health and hygiene management. Results: There were no statistically significant correlations between the total knowledge score and both the total self-reported practice score and the total attitude score of deaf and mute adolescent girls in the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test in Qena and Ismailia Governorates. Conclusion: Educational program was effective in improved knowledge, self-reported practice and attitude of deaf and mute adolescent girls about menstrual health and hygiene management. Replicating this study with a larger sample of adolescent girls at Al-Amal Schools and in different settings to enhance the generalizability of the results. | ||||
