Abstract | ||||
Background: 3.8 percent of the population is affected by carpal tunnel syndrome, which is a form of entrapment neuropathy of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel. The traditional open release surgery is effective, but it can lead to cosmetic issues like excessive scar formation, impacting patient satisfaction. Minimally invasive techniques such as percutaneous release aim to reduce these complications. Aim: The study aimed to assess the results and drawbacks of percutaneous release of carpal tunnel syndrome. Methods: This prospective randomized investigation has been performed on 60 cases suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome randomized into 2 groups: Group A (Number= 30): cases suffering from severe carpal tunnel syndrome and underwent transverse release and Group B (Number= 30): cases suffering from severe carpal tunnel syndrome and underwent mini longitudinal palmer incision, admitted at Qaha Central Hospital and Ain Shams General Hospital from January 2024 to July 2024. Results: The percutaneous release group demonstrated a significantly quicker return to usual activities (P Conclusions: Percutaneous release may have advantages over traditional surgical release in terms of decreased incisional pain, decreased pillar pain, better grip strength recovery in the later stages, and higher patient satisfaction. | ||||
