| Abstract | ||||
| Background: Evaluation of nutritional status and nutritional management of the diet of dialysis patients are fundamental aspects of daily nephrology treatment due to the prevalence of malnutrition in this population and the strong correlation between it and mortality and morbidity. Aim and objectives: In order to determine whether there is a correlation between nutritional condition and the ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes in individuals with chronic renal disease. Patients and methods: This cross-sectional study included 50 hemodialysis patients and 50 patients in different stages of CKD. The study was conducted in the Nephrology Unit, El-Hussein University Hospital, from June 2023 to July 2024. The patients on hemodialysis receive 3 hemodialysis sessions weekly, each session for four hours on the Fresenius Hemodialysis machine with a filter 1.8 surface area and dialysate content. Results: Complex relationship between inflammation and nutritional status in CKD patients, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. This approach should focus on early detection and management of nutritional deficiencies, along with addressing the underlying inflammatory processes. Conclusion: In individuals suffering from chronic renal disease, the results show that there is a direct correlation between nutritional health and the ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes. The complex relationship between inflammation, nutritional status, and comorbidities in CKD necessitates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, focusing on early detection and management of nutritional deficiencies while also addressing the underlying inflammatory processes. | ||||
