Abstract | ||||
PURPOSE: To evaluate the ability and efficacy of diode laser with 450nm and 976nm wavelengths in removing of CeraSeal calcium silicate-based filling material and compare it to Rogin retreatment file system. Material and methods: Thirty-six extracted single-rooted human mandibular premolars were mechanically prepared and obturated with CeraSeal calcium silicate-based filling material utilising cold lateral compaction technique. Obturated samples were subjected to thermo-cycling for 5000 cycles and sorted randomly into three groups of twelve samples each, according to the retreatment method. Group I: root canal filling material removed using a 450nm diode laser. Group II: root canal filling material removed using a 976nm diode laser. Group III: root canal filling material removed using the Rogin retreatment file system. Three-dimensional volumetric analysis of the filling material before and after retreatment were done using cone beam computed tomography and DDS-Pro version 2.22.0_2024 licensed software. Results: No significant difference was observed in the volume percentage of remaining root canal filling material between groups I and II with a P-value = 0.64. While a significant difference was observed between groups I and III, and between groups II and III with a P-value = 0.000*. Conclusion: Despite its ability to remove calcium silicate-based root filling material at both wavelengths (450nm and 976nm), the diode laser beam does not outperform the NiTi retreatment file system. | ||||
