| Abstract | ||||
| Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of monotherapy of Eggshell nanoparticles or their combination with Titanium Dioxide nanoparticles on the permeability of dentinal tubules after exposure to wear challenges. Materials and Methods: The nanoparticles of eggshell and titanium dioxide were prepared and then were characterized using transmission electron microscope. A total of sixty freshly extracted human premolars were sectioned longitudinally, into two halves (buccal and lingual). On the cervical region of each half, class v cavity was prepared. After simulation of hypersensitive dentin, cavities were divided into four groups (30 for each) according to the treatment materials; (A0) no treatment (negative control). (A1) monotherapy of Eggshell. (A2) combination therapy of Eggshell +Titanium dioxide nanoparticles; (A3) MI paste plus (positive control). Every group was further subdivided into three subgroups (10 for each) according to the time of evaluation of the treatment outcome, (T1) immediately; (T2) after two weeks; (T3) after four weeks. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope was used to evaluate the occlusion of dentinal tubules and Stereomicroscope for measuring the permeability of the dentin. Image analysis software was used for calculating the depth of dye penetration. Results: The lowest statistically significant dye penetration depth mean value was recorded in the combination therapy of Eggshell +Titanium Dioxide then the monotherapy of Eggshell followed by MI paste and negative control. Conclusion: Eggshell monotherapy or its combination with titanium dioxide can be considered as a promising therapy for decreasing dentin permeability and treating the dentin hypersensitivity. | ||||
