| Abstract | ||||
| This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on phonetics in developing the skills of reciting the Holy Quran and understanding the Quranic text among first-year middle school students. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach in preparing the theoretical framework, and its three axes were presented: The first axis is recitation; its concept and nature, the importance of teaching its rules and mastering its skills, its etiquette, then its levels, the objectives to be achieved from reciting the Holy Quran, and classifying its skills appropriate to the characteristics of the middle school student, leading to the preparation of a list of recitation skills appropriate and necessary for first-year middle school students. The second axis is understanding the Qur’anic text, clarifying its relationship to the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, and the importance of linking the understanding of the Qur’anic text with correct recitation, leading to the preparation of a list of appropriate and important Qur’anic text comprehension skills for students, the levels of this comprehension, and clarifying the relationship between understanding the Qur’anic text and correct recitation. The third axis: Phonetics and its role in developing recitation skills and understanding the Qur’anic text were clarified, and the concept of phonetics was explained, along with a brief overview of its origins, divisions, principles, characteristics, advantages, and its role in developing the skills of reciting the Holy Qur’an and understanding the Qur’anic text, in addition to its functional aspects, the effect of phonetic phenomena on meanings, and revealing the close relationship between functional phonetics and the Holy Qur’an, the phonetic lesson and its principles and characteristics. Then, the modern applications of phonetics, including its applications in Quranic recitation, were presented. Contemporary challenges in phonetics were also presented, along with a set of foundations for phonetics applications, their use in program development, and their application to developing recitation skills and Quranic text comprehension skills. The experimental approach was used to apply the program to a group of first-year middle school students. The program included a group of audio activities organized according to the rules of phonetics, in addition to training activities that enhance Quranic understanding. Pre- and post-tests were developed to measure students' reading and comprehension skills, and the results were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The results revealed statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group, confirming the program's effectiveness. | ||||
