Abstract Background: Transport of critically ill patients for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures carries a risk of complications. Adverse events frequently occur during transport and can have serious implications for the patient. Aim of the study: to assess the complications during intrahospital transport of critically ill patients and its related risk factors. Research design: observational prospective exploratory research design. Setting: This study was carried in intensive care units at Qena university hospital. Subjects: A convenience sampling of 100 patients. Tools: Five tools were utilized to collect data of the study, Tool 1: Patient assessment tool. Tool 2: Hemodynamic monitoring assessment tool. Tool 3: Medication assessment tool. Tool 4: Equipment preparation and Transport team assessment tool. Tool 5: Complications assessment tool. Results: Complications were observed in 79% of the study sample. The identified risk factors included the transport team, equipment preparation, and the patient’s condition, all of which were linked to the occurrence of complications. Conclusion: Intrahospital transport of critically ill patients is associated with significant complications and influenced by various risk factors. Recommendation:the study must be replicate on a large number of patients so that the results can be generalized.Protocols and guidelines for patient transfers should be utilized universally across all healthcare facilities to prevent complications that occur during intrahospital transport. | ||||
