Abstract | ||||
This study examines the impact of smartphone screen time and TikTok usage duration on the attention span of students at junior high schools in Salatiga. Using a quantitative correlational research design and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) for data analysis, the study investigates how exposure to smartphone usage and social media, particularly TikTok, affects students' ability to focus on academic tasks. Data were collected through surveys distributed to a random sample of students from six selected junior high schools in Salatiga. The findings reveal significant negative correlations between both smartphone screen time exposure and TikTok usage duration with attention span. Specifically, longer smartphone usage and extended time spent on TikTok lead to a decrease in students' attention span, affecting their concentration during academic activities. These results highlight the need for careful management of screen time and social media usage to mitigate their negative impact on students' learning and cognitive development. This research provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers to consider in developing strategies for improving students' attention in the digital age. | ||||
