Abstract | ||||
This study examines the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and macroeconomic factors on urbanization in selected Sub-Saharan African countries (South Africa, Mauritius, Gabon, Namibia, and Botswana) from 2014 to 2023. Using panel data analysis, the research explores the relationship between urbanization (measured by urban population percentage) and key variables, including ICT indicators (mobile cellular subscriptions, fixed telephone subscriptions, internet usage, and secure internet servers), GDP per capita, broad money, and government expenditure on education. The findings reveal a positive correlation between ICT adoption (mobile and internet usage) and urbanization, while secure internet servers, GDP per capita, broad money, and government expenditure exhibit negative relationships. The study highlights the dual role of ICT in driving urban growth and exacerbating digital divides, emphasizing the need for targeted policies to enhance digital infrastructure, affordability, and financial inclusion. | ||||
