| Abstract | ||||
| Background: Aortic valve disease is a type of heart valve disease in which aorta doesn't work properly and in serious cases is treated by performing aortic valve replacement surgery. Patient awareness is critical for a successful shared decision- making process, especially in care post arterial valve replacement. Aim of the Study: Assessing patients` awareness of healthcare related to post aortic valve replacement surgery, through assessing patients` knowledge, attitude and reported practices about aortic valve replacement surgery and care post-surgery. Design: A descriptive design was used. Setting: The study was conducted in outpatient clinics of cardiovascular hospital / Ain Shams University Hospitals. Size: the sample composed of 100 patient recently had aortic valve replacement surgery from both sex. Tools: Tool1: A Structured Interviewing Questionnaire Sheet that contain four parts; Part I Socio - demographic data of studied patients. Part 2: medical history of the studied patients. Part 3. Patient’s knowledge about aortic valve surgery care post aortic valve replacement surgery. Part 4: Patients` reported practices related to care post aortic valve replacement surgery. Tool1: Patients` attitude related to care post aortic valve replacement surgery. Results: 59% of studied patients had total unsatisfactory knowledge about aortic valve surgery care post aortic valve replacement surgery, 68% of them had total unhealthy practices about aortic valve surgery care post aortic valve replacement surgery and 92% of them had total negative attitude regarding aortic valve surgery care post aortic valve replacement surgery. Conclusion: There was a significant positive correlation between total knowledge of the studied patients and their total attitude and there was statistically significant positive correlation between total reported practices of the studied patients and their total attitude respectively. Recommendation: Conducting health education program for patients with aortic valve replacement surgery to improve their knowledge, practice and attitude regarding their self-care post-surgery through establishment of a web site. | ||||
