Abstract | ||||
Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a large health issue in developing countries. In Iraq, various studies have been performed to assess the genotypes prevalence related the virus (HCV), but, there is little data about such prevalence in Diwaniyah Province. Objective: The aim of this research is to find the prevalence of different HCV genotypes in a sample of Iraqi patients in Diwaniyah province. Methodology: For this purpose, five ml venous blood from antecubital vein was obtained from 32 patients. Those patients were recruited from renal dialysis unit, liver disease unit and blood transfusion unit in Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital. DNA sequencing was performed. Results: Rate of genetic subtypes of HCV in patients’ group were as following: 11 cases (34.4 %) were genotype 4 subtypes, 10 cases (31.3 %) were genotype 1a subtypes, 7 cases (21.9 %) were genotype 1b subtype and the rest of 4 cases (12.5 %) were genotype 3b subtype. Conclusion: The HCV genotype with highest frequency in Diwaniyah province is genotype-4 followed by genotype 1a, followed by genotypes 1b and lastly by genotype 3b. | ||||
