Abstract | ||||
Water quality refers to the state of the water, including its chemical, physical, and biological properties, typically in relation to its suitability for a certain use. This study aims to analyze the water quality comprising physical, chemical, and biological features of the annual average and seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton and zooplankton communities in El-Mahmodia canal. The measured physicochemical parameters include; (Turbidity, Temperature, pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Solids, Total alkalinity, Total Hardness, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Sulfate, Phosphate, Dissolved Oxygen, Biological Oxygen Demand, and Chemical Oxygen Demand. The average water quality index (WQI) has values ranging from 75.01 (bad water quality) to 132.57 (extremely poor). Both phytoplankton and zooplankton were investigated. Because it assesses the canal's environmental conditions, a vital source of water for the governorates of Alexandria and Behiera, this study is important. According to the results Three groups of phytoplankton (Blue Green Algae, Green Algae, and Diatom) were recorded which. The highest density registered in winter, while the lowest density recorded in summer. In addition to six zooplankton groups were quantified in the analysis of sample, the highest density listed in summer, although the lowest listed in winter and autumn. The results showed that all these parameters within their ideal ranges indicate that the water is of good quality and suitable for its intended use. | ||||
