Abstract | ||||
Background: Acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis is an immune-mediated kidney disease, most commonly seen in children after infection with group A β-hemolytic streptococci. While some children are asymptomatic, others present with edema, hematuria, oliguria, hypertension. Aim: to analyze the clinical characteristics children diagnosed with acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis admitted to a tertiary children's hospital in Minia university. Patients and Methods: This prospective descriptive study was conducted over a six-month period from November 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025, at Minia University children's hospital. All patients presented with clinical features acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis during this period were included according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Sixty-one acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis patients were included in the study. acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis was more prevalent in male patients, accounting for 62.3% of patients. Upper respiratory tract infection preceded acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis in 85.2% of patients. The predominant clinical manifestations among acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis patients were edema (88.5%), macroscopic hematuria (83.6%) and oliguria (78.7%). In terms of hypertension, 9.8% had hypertension stage 1 and 27.9% had hypertension stage 2. No statistically significant was found between the etiology of infection and gender of patients (p = 0.23). No statistically significant was found between the duration of infection and gender of patients (p = 0.65). Conclusions: acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis is a common type of glomerulonephritis and children present with different clinical features commonly edema, macroscopic hematuria, oliguria and hypertension. | ||||
