Abstract
          Background: Stuttering considers one of the most common health problems among children which have many negative consequences along the child’s life span that may increase vulnerability to social, self- esteem and psychological complications. Aim of the study was to assess the relation between social anxiety and self-esteem among children with stuttering. Research design: A descriptive correlational study design was used in this study. Setting: The study was conducted at outpatient clinic of children and adolescents in psychiatric health hospital and addiction treatment and outpatient clinic of children in Teaching Hospital at Benha city. Subjects: A purposive sample of 100 children with stuttering. Tools of data collection: Three tools were used for data collection; Tool (I): A structured Interview Questionnaire, Tool (II): Social Anxiety Scale and Tool (III): Self-Esteem Scale. Results: Nearly (47%) of the studied children had high level of social anxiety and more than (55%) of the studied children had low level of self-esteem. Conclusion: There was a highly statistically significant negative correlation between total level of social anxiety and total level of self-esteem. Recommendations: Increasing public awareness about management of psychological consequences of stuttering especially social anxiety symptoms and low self-esteem among children.
