Background: Ulcerative colitis is incurable, relapsing, and remitting intestinal disease that often requires lifelong treatment usage to maintain remission. Aim: Was to evaluate the effect of educational program on ulcerative colitis patients' knowledge and their clinical outcomes. Research design: Quasi- experimental design was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at inpatient and outpatient clinic of liver department and gastrointestinal system at Benha University Hospital, Egypt. Subjects: A convenient sample of all available adult patients with ulcerative colitis disease (70 patients) who were admitted to the previous setting. Tools: Two tools for data collection were used as follows: (I) structured interviewing questionnaire. (II) Mayo Score to assess clinical health outcome. Results: The study showed that statistically significant improvement in the total knowledge for studied patients immediately post educational program and 3 months post program implementation with (75.7%, 66.7% respectively level of total knowledge) compared to 15.7% pre- program and 24.3% of studied sample had severe clinical outcomes pre-program implementation compared to (80% , 91.4% respectively) of the studied patients had normal clinical outcomes 1 month and 3 months post educational guidelines implementation. Conclusion: Implementation of educational program had a positive effect on improving patients' knowledge and clinical outcomes for ulcerative colitis. Recommendations: The study should be replicated on a large sample from different geographical distribution to generalize the findings. | ||||
