Abstract | ||||
Background: Cerebral palsy describes a group of permanent disorder of the development of movement and posture, causing activity limitation attributed to non-progressive disturbances occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain. Aim of study: Was to assess mothers’ awareness regarding care for children with cerebral palsy at Benha City. Research Design: A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted at Neurology Pediatric Outpatient Clinics at Benha University Hospital, and Children Specialized Hospital in Benha City: Sample: purposive sample was used in this study and the sample size was125 mothers attended to the previous setting. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used in this study. Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire was used included three parts to assess a): Mothers socio- demographic characteristics and personal characteristics of the studied CP children, b): Medical history of the studied children, c): Mothers’ knowledge regarding cerebral palsy. Tool II: It was concerned with observational practices to assess mothers’ care regarding children with cerebral palsy. Results: 8% of the studied mothers had total good knowledge level about CP, 18.4% of them had total average knowledge level, and 73.6% of them had total poor knowledge level regarding cerebral palsy. 37.6% of the studied mothers had total satisfactory practice level and 62.4% of them had total unsatisfactory practice level. Conclusion: There was statistically significant relation between the studied mothers' total knowledge level and total practices level. Recommendations: Develop and implement educational programs to increase mothers’ awareness regarding care for children with cerebral palsy. | ||||
