Abstract | ||
This study aims to analyze the role of the blue economy in activating environmental policies to achieve sustainable development in Egypt, in light of the escalating environmental and economic challenges facing the country. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and a case study approach to compare the Egyptian experience with the experiences of the United Arab Emirates and Croatia, with the aim of extracting lessons learned and applying them to the Egyptian context. The results showed that Egypt possesses significant potential in the blue economy, thanks to its extensive coastlines on the Red and Mediterranean seas and its diverse marine resources. However, it faces structural challenges related to weak integrated coastal zone management, marine pollution, and limited investment in marine technology. The study also emphasized the importance of integrating marine sectors, such as tourism, fisheries, and renewable energy, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Food Security, SDG 8: Economic Growth, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 14: Life Below Water, given their direct link to the blue economy. The study recommends adopting a comprehensive national blue economy strategy based on developing marine infrastructure, investing in renewable energy, and strengthening legal and institutional frameworks for sustainable management of marine resources, while leveraging successful international models to achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. | ||
