Abstract | ||||
Background: Preterm Labor is a leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. The care of women with preterm labor needs skillful and well-prepared nurse, so the implementation of nursing care guidelines can significantly improve nurse performance by enhancing their knowledge and practice. Aim: To determine the effect of nursing care guidelines on nurses' performance regarding preterm labor. Subjects and method: Design: Quasi-experimental research was used. Settings: In-patient antenatal units of obstetric department of Tanta University Hospital and El-Menshawy General Hospital. Subject: All nurses (80) who were working at the previously mentioned. Tools: Two tools were used: (tool I): Nurses' knowledge regarding preterm labor, consisting of two parts; part (one): socio-demographic characteristics, and part (two): nurses' knowledge regarding preterm labor. (tool II): Observational checklist for nurses' practices regarding care of women with preterm Labor. Results: High level of nurses� knowledge and satisfactory practices regarding preterm labor were reported immediately and one month after implementation of the nursing care guidelines in contrast to low knowledge and unsatisfactory practices before nursing care guidelines implementation. Conclusion: The nursing care guidelines regarding preterm labor had positive effect on improving the level of knowledge and practices among the studied nurses working at the previous mention settings. Recommendation: Planning and conducting in-service training programs for all nurses regarding preterm labor to improve and refresh nurses ' knowledge and enhance their practices dependent on recent evidence-based practices.ng education t | ||||
