Abstract | ||||
Background: To verify the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on voice quality in patients with glottic insufficiency. A prospective study was conducted on 20 adult patients of both genders aged above 20 years old with glottic insufficiency candidate for (PRP) injection into vocal fold using fiber-optic laryngoscope under local anesthesia. Results: No significant improvement was found between fundamental frequency, jitter %, noise to harmonic ratio and maximum phonation time among pre-injection, after month and after 3 months but shimmer % showed a statistically significant decrease after 3 months of follow-up from pre-injection while 1 month showed no statistically significant difference from pre-injection. Conclusion: (PRP) is safe to use as an option for treatment of glottic insufficiency . The risk-benefit ratio makes even small or partial gains advantageous. Significant decrease in shimmer% was observed after 3 months following PRP injection. Additionally, other acoustic parameters were improved after one month and 3 months of follow-up but with no statistically significant differences compared with the baseline before the injection.
