| Abstract | ||
| Gothic architecture is one of the styles that left a distinctive mark on architecture history. It is a new architecture with unique features. Hence, the research attempted to answer the questions: Is Gothic architecture capable of being renewed so that its elements and content can be used in design to suit the times? Is it possible to design contemporary furniture that embodies its characteristics and content? The research aims to: trace the survival Gothic architecture throughout the ages to answer the research question. It applied its results to design a contemporary furniture inspired by Gothic architecture. The importance of this lies in elevating design thought to benefit from it and linking it to twenty-first century designer thought. The research assumed that Gothic architecture is able to survive and renew itself across time and space, and that it doesn’t only express doctrinal content, the study extended from the Middle Ages to the modern era. It used the descriptive analytical approach and applied approach. The research has achieved its objectives: that Gothic architecture is a renewal architecture, and has the ability to survive across time and space, and remains a symbol of human creativity, reminding that the past beauty can remain a permanent and influential source of inspiration in shaping the future, and that it is not limited to expressing doctrinal content, it is a long history of development. The research was able to design furniture inspired by the content of Gothic architecture with a contemporary approach that suits the third millennium. | ||
