Abstract | ||||
In this paper, the Arabic verse translation of Macbeth by Muhammed M. Enani is discussed in the context of Newmark’s procedures and methods to transfer the original text into Arabic. In fact, Shakespeare’s poetry has been the inspiration and the most expressive literary form of words used all over the world to describe feelings within various occasions. Macbeth has a lot of Shakespeare's historical background and classical knowledge of Roman and Greek. Shakespeare's language is unique with special type of words and structures and always related to his time. In dealing with the translation of drama texts, certain factors should be taken into consideration; one and the most important factor is always related to extra-linguistic elements, which are considered the most problematic issues to be dealt with. The tone of voice, the sarcasm, and the body language must be reflected, especially if this work is written to be performed. Investigating Enani’s translation of the play gives readers a clear description of the decision-making process of the translator and his intended and even unintended techniques in proposing his version. The results show Enani’s complete honesty in transferring the original meaning far from linguistic complexity, preserving the original identity of the source text. | ||||
