Abstract | ||||
Being one of the oldest Islamic institutions worldwide, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif has significantly contributed to the promotion of moderate Islamic thought and religious education since its establishment. The impact of Al-Azhar extended to China as early as the 19th century, when Chinese students began to visit Egypt and join Al-Azhar for the pursuit of Islamic and Arabic sciences. Upon their return to China, those students disseminated values of moderation and scholarly tradition they acquired at Al-Azhar, thereby influencing the religious identity of Chinese Muslims. Moreover, Al-Azhar has contributed to strengthen the cultural ties between Egypt and China through educational exchange and the support of Arabic and Islamic studies within Chinese universities. As a hub of interfaith and intercultural dialogue, Al-Azhar cultivates mutual understanding, coexistence, and tolerance among civilizations. Presently, it persists as an essential force in fostering cooperation between nations and building a more equitable and peaceful world based on respect, diversity, and shared human values. | ||||
