Abstract | ||||
The interaction of (Keto-Gly) with various metal ions (Co+2, Cd+2, Pb+2, Mn+2, Fe+3 and Ag+) in aqueous solution was studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The formation constants of (Keto-Gly) metal complexes were calculated by the use of "molar ratio method" and the "continuous variation method". The stoichiometric ratios between metal ion to (Keto-Gly) were found to be 1:2 for both (Keto-Gly)-Co, (Keto-Gly)-Cd, (Keto-Gly)-Pb and (Keto-Gly)-Ag complexes, except for (Keto-Gly)-Mn complex which exhibit 2:5 metal to ligand ratio and (Keto-Gly)-Fe complex which exhibit 2:3, 2:5 and 2:7 metal to ligand ratio. The stability constants of the complexes of keto-Gly with (Co+2, Cd+2, Pb+2, Mn+2, Fe+3, and Ag+) at 25 °C were calculated throughout using the Job and molar ratio methods. The formation constants determined by the two methods are in good agreement. Theoretical calculations of (keto-Gly) and (keto-Gly)-Cd complexes were performed using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) with the DMol3 optimization method. | ||||
