Abstract | ||||
Background: Repair of large–sized ventral hernia (VH) in obese patients represents an intricate surgical problem. Repair combined with Lipoabdominoplasty (LA) was described to rectify the distortion of abdominal contour. Aim of the study: To assess efficacy of combining LA with VH repair, regarding surgical strategy, results and complications. Patients and Methods: This was a prospective study conducted in Plastic Surgery department of Minia University Hospitals in the period from July 2023 till February 2025. Twenty multiparous females subjected to repair of VH in combination with LA were included in the study. The primary outcomes of the study were the duration of surgery and recurrence of hernia during follow up, while secondary outcomes comprise duration of hospital stay, rate of readmission, and wound complications. Results: The mean age of our patients was 37.8 ± 7.8 years, with a body mass index ( BMI) ranging from 25.6 to 35.1 kg/m². The average operative time was 245 ± 43.3 minutes, and the mean hospital stay was 6.8 ± 2.5 days. The overall complication rate was 25% (n=5), including wound dehiscence (20%), wound infection (10%), hematoma (10%), hypertrophic scar formation (20%), umbilical necrosis (5%), dog-ear deformity (15%), and skin necrosis (10%). No cases of hernia recurrence or mortality were observed during the 12-months follow-up period. Conclusion: Hernio-abdominoplasty appears to be a safe and effective option for the repair of large ventral hernias. It is advisable to utilize this combined technique for appropriately selected patients; however, further studies are warranted to evaluate long-term outcomes. | ||||
