Abstract | ||||
Back ground :Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be non-invasively assessed in real time with intestinal ultrasonography (IUS). Objective: to evaluate role of intestinal ultrasound in assessment of inflammatory bowel disease activity .. Patients and Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted at AL Zahraa university Hospital, focusing on patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and utilizing Intestinal Ultrasound (IUS) to assess various parameters related to clinical activity.Participants were divided into 2 groups according to clinical activity group 1(N=15) active IBD patients group 2 inactive IBD patients (N=15). The following IUS findings were compared with clinical activity: bowel wall thickness, increased vascularity, loss of bowel wall stratification, changes in intestinal motility, enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes, inflammatory changes in mesenteric fat, and the loss of colon haustration.. Results:The 30 patients' mean age was 28., and 60% of them were female. With a mean disease duration of three years, 53.3% had underlying ulcerative colitis. BWT had an 80% specificity and 86.7% sensitivity for identifying active illness when compared to clinical activity using ROC curve with cut off point 3 mm . Color Doppler sensitivity is 73%, and specificity is 86.6%.loss of BWS inflammed mesenteric fat ,enlarged LN and intraperitoneal free fluid sensitivity is 13.3%.(by two-by-two table).. Conclusions: IUS detects active disease in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) with high specificity and moderate sensitivity, making it a valuable adjunct to other diagnostic methods for evaluation of disease activity.BWT and color Doppler had role in discriminate IBD patient’s activity | ||||
