The research aims to establish the term “recreation” in Arabic dictionaries and lexicons. The researcher used the inductive approach due to its suitability to the nature of the research. The research community is represented in the Arabic dictionaries and lexicons mentioned in the research references. The research reached a set of results, including: The term “recreation” comes from the root (rawwāḥa) and is attributed to what comes after it, and means returning to the natural state of the person to whom it is attributed. Also, what is meant by “recreation” (for the soul) in the Arabic language is the relief of the human soul after distress, while entertainment, amusement, play, and recreation are all terms that revolve around bringing joy to the soul. Also, many dictionaries relied on narratives in their interpretation of the term “recreation” in Islamic civilization. Finally, the dictionaries established the term “recreation” through the roots of the original Arabic language and its contemporary developments, which confirmed the continuity of the term and its original meaning. In light of the research results and conclusions, the researchers recommended the necessity of raising awareness of the establishment of terms in various sciences in order to preserve the Arab identity, and raising awareness of the use of the term “recreation” with its Arabic meanings in expressions.
