Abstract | ||||
The main objective of this research is to investigate the behavior of concrete columns reinforced with steel bars, hybrid bars and hybrid schemes (steel and glass fiber bars) under the effect of eccentric loads. For this investigation twelve square concrete columns with dimensions (150mm*200mm) and height 1500mm were fabricated at housing and building research center (HBRC) with different reinforcement ratios (2.05%, 2.26%, 3% and 3.08%) and variable reinforcement type. The reinforcement bar type was steel bars, locally produced hybrid bars and hybrid scheme (steel and glass fiber bars). Furthermore, the test parameters included the eccentricity ratios e/t (0, 11%, 37.5%). load – axial deformation and lateral displacement curves were developed and the energy absorption capacity of each column was calculated, and crack patterns as well as failure modes were carefully recorded. The experimental results showed that the columns reinforced with steel bars have the maximum load capacity, initial stiffness and energy absorption. | ||||
