Abstract | ||
Background: Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is a common gynecological condition affecting fifteen to twenty percent of female between menarche and menopause. Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) characterized by elevated TSH with normal thyroid hormone levels. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of subclinical hypothyroidism between females in child bearing period complaining of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Methods: This was cross-sectional observational research performed on 150 women aged 18-50 years at Obstetrics and Gynecology department, Mansoura University Hospitals, Mansoura, Egypt. between January 2022 and September 2024. Results: The occurrence of subclinical hypothyroidism between females with DUB was 4.7%. No statistically significant association were found between subclinical hypothyroidism and age, parity, gravidity, BMI, or bleeding patterns. Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) was more commonly observed among SCH cases. Hematological and coagulation profiles were not significantly different in SCH cases. Conclusion: The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in cases with DUB in this study was 4.7%. While there was a non-statistically significant correlation between subclinical hypothyroidism and abnormal uterine bleeding.
