Abstract | ||
The study aimed to identify the positive and negative impact of children's use of social media, particularly over-the-top (OTT) streaming platforms, on their social values from the perspective of parents. The study relied on the descriptive approach to analyze parents' views on the impact of OTT streaming on the social values of primary school children in Kuwait. 437 parents participated in this study. The researcher's survey design collected information on the positive and negative effects of OTT streaming on children's social values, and parents' attitudes toward this impact. The results revealed that the positive impact of children's OTT streaming ranked first, with its availability supporting it to a moderate degree. The most prominent positive aspects of children's OTT streaming include increased religious, moral, and national awareness, and the inculcation of ethical values and good role models. The lowest arithmetic means are attributed to its ability to help children accept new cultures or learn new languages. The most prominent negatives of children's OTT streaming include weakening their expressive abilities, increasing their financial expenses, deepening disputes with siblings and friends due to differences of opinion, widening the gap between children and family members, and causing problems with their parents due to excessive viewing. | ||
