Abstract | ||
Abstract Background: Iron deficiency anemia is a condition that occurs when the body does not have enough iron to produce adequate levels of hemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that enables them to carry oxygen throughout the body. This type of anemia is the most common worldwide and can affect individuals of all ages, particularly women, children, and individuals with poor dietary intake. Aim: This study aimed to assess knowledge and practices of primary school students’ mothers regarding iron deficiency anemia. Research design: A descriptive study design was used to conduct the study. Setting: Saad bin Abi Waqqas and Jarir Primary Schools in South of Riyadh Region, Saudia Arabia. Sample: Multi stage random sample used to choose 120 mothers for primary school’s students. Tool of data collection: One tool included three parts, 1st part: Socio-demographic characteristics of primary school students’ mothers and child, 2nd part: Mothers’ knowledge, and 3rd part: Mothers’ reported practice regarding iron deficiency anemia. Results: 60.0 % of studied mothers had poor total knowledge. While, 55.0 % of them had unsatisfactory total reported practices regarding iron deficiency anemia. There was highly statistically significant relation between studied mothers’ total knowledge, total reported practices and all items of socio-demographic characteristics. Recommendations: Provide health education program for primary school students’ mothers about iron deficiency anemia to improve their condition. | ||
