Abstract | ||
Nature has always been a fundamental source of inspiration in architecture. Throughout history, architects have drawn upon organic structures found in the natural world, from the golden ratio formulated by Leonardo Fibonacci to the principles of organic architecture established by Frank Lloyd Wright. In contemporary practice, computational algorithms are increasingly being used to simulate ecological systems. The advent of advanced digital technologies has led to a radical transformation in architecture, with a new understanding of the relationship between design and nature. The inspiration drawn from nature is no longer limited to merely replicating its forms; instead, it now seeks to emulate the biological processes that govern natural systems. This shift has led to the emergence of two principal approaches in modern digital architecture: • Post-Facto Formal Analogies: In this approach, architectural designs are generated using digital tools and subsequently rationalized as being inspired by nature. • Analogies with Natural Processes: Instead of simply borrowing organic forms, this approach aims to recreate natural systems through intelligent algorithms and generative design techniques. 1.2. Research Problem This study addresses the following questions: • How is nature inspired in digital architecture? Is it merely a symbolic justification for the complexity of forms, or does it represent a genuine shift towards architecture that adapts and evolves like biological systems? • How feasible is the simulation of natural processes in architecture? Can we achieve self-adaptive buildings that respond to their environment like living organisms? • What role do software and algorithms play in shaping architectural designs inspired by nature? 1.3. Research Methodology and Structure This research adopts a qualitative analytical methodology that integrates both theoretical and empirical approaches. The study is structured to examine the dual relationship between digital architecture and nature, through two main analytical layers: | ||
