| Abstract | ||
| Abstract The present paper aims to provide a pragmatic analysis of implicature technique in some selected utterances of Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’. This famous work by Miller has been much concerned because of the rich depiction and the tragedy thought. The researcher chooses this play for its numerous and various in approaches. It aims to reveal the actors’ ability to communicate their intensions while the characters say the speeches. Furthermore, the present paper highlights attention on the procedures of pragmatic to analyze Arthur Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’. In the current study, the researcher, applies the theory of cooperative principles by Paul Grice and types of implicatures by George Yule to analyze the observing of maxims and types of implied meanings in ‘Death of a salesman’. The researcher uses some selected extracts of discourses that are taken from this play as the data for implicature analysis. The strategies of implicature could help the readers learn how to recognize the aims of participants. At the end, the study includes the inference for the practicing the pragmatic strategies to value the dramatic work and its role to reveal the intended meaning of the actors’ utterances. As well, it helps the hearers / listeners to comprehend the author’s style in displaying and express the character’s intention by using different skills of language. | ||
