Abstract | ||
Background: National Early warning score (NEWS) systems have been developed to support ward nurses by aiding in identification of clinical deterioration at earlier stages. Nursing education regarding NEWS was expected to reduce the knowledge deficit about the application of the NEWS and improve their practice to maintain patient safety. Aim: To evaluate effect of Implementing Educational Program on Nurses performance about National Early Warning score in Emergency Department. Design and Methods: A quasi experimental study design: Sitting: was performed in Emergency department, main Hospital, Assiut university hospitals. Tools: Two tools were utilized to collect data pertinent to the study: Tool l Nurses knowledge Arabic assessment sheet: Tool II: Nurses practice assessment tool: Results: revealed that total knowledge level of nurses were (93.3%) satisfactory level regarding national early warning score post test and (27.5%) of nurses had a satisfactory level. While total nurses practice level were (97.7%) had an inadequate level regarding national early warning score and there is a statically significance difference between total nurses knowledge and practice pre and posttest 0.000. Conclusions: There was significant improvement of studied nurses’ performance regarding identification and response to clinical deterioration due to positive effect of NEWS educational program intervention. Also, satisfaction concerning NEWS educational program was reported sufficiently among studied nurses after program intervention. Recommendation: The study recommended that nurses' education about NEWS system and clinical deterioration training should be periodically assessed and validated.
