Abstract | ||
Background: Electronic Medical Records enhance healthcare efficiency by improving patient data access, reducing errors, and streamlining workflows. In developing countries like Egypt, adoption faces challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited training, and resistance to change. Nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, practices, and perceived barriers significantly influence successful implementation, necessitating comprehensive evaluation in Egyptian healthcare settings. Aim: To explore nurses’ performance and barriers to Electronic Medical Record application in Port Said hospitals. Design: A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was used. Settings: A three hospital affiliated to Egypt health care authority were the places in which the study was conducted, namely; As-Sallam, El-Zohour, El-Nasr hospitals. Subjects: Includes 264 nurses. Tools: employing five quantitative questionnaires (Demographic, Knowledge, Attitude, practice, Barriers) and a qualitative interview guide. Results: Most nurses were female and Bachelor’s-educated, reporting high knowledge (mean score: 25.5/28) and positive attitudes (mean score: 32.0/38) toward Electronic Medical Records. Universal practice agreement suggested response bias. Key barriers included connectivity issues, poor internet, and training deficits. Education correlated with knowledge, but not with attitudes or barriers. Conclusion: Nurses demonstrated strong knowledge and favorable attitudes toward Electronic Medical Records, yet barriers like connectivity and training deficits hindered effective use. Recommendations: Implement targeted training, enhance IT infrastructure, and foster leadership support to improve adoption. | ||
