Abstract | ||
Wax deposition in crude oil pipelines is one of the most serious flow assurance challenges. Oleic acid-based copolymers were synthesized and evaluated as pour point depressants (PPDs) to mitigate this issue. Dimethyl maleate was grafted onto Decyl Oleate (DO-G-PDMM) and vinyl acetate onto oleic acid (OA-G-PVA). Structures were confirmed by FTIR and 1H NMR. At optimal dose (3000 ppm) of DO-G-PDMM reduced the pour point from 24 °C to 9 °C, while the blend with (2000 ppm) of OA-G-PVA further decreased it to 6 °C. Rheological measurements were performed at 20°C and 30°C and achieved remarkable enhancement in yield stress which decreased from 9.91 dyn/cm2 to 0.16 dyn/cm2 and from 0.651 dyn/cm2 to 0.0025 dyn/cm2 respectively; moreover achieved a good paraffin inhibition percentage of 66.43%.These results demonstrate the novel synergistic action of DO-G-PDMM and OA-G-PVA in a single formulation and highlight their potential as efficient, environmentally friendly flow improvers for waxy crude oil | ||
