Abstract | ||
Background: Candiduria results from colonization or contamination rather than a true infection .The candiduria often occurs when one or more of the predisposing factors are present such as diabetes mellitus ( DM ).The DM is a contributor to the develop candiduria in affected individuals. Methods: A number ( 200 ) of the urine specimens was collected from diabetic patients infected with urinary tract infection ( UTI ), 25 of patients infected with UTI and no DM represented positive control, and 25 of healthy individuals as a negative control. The specimens were collected from General Hospital and clinics of AL-Shatrah District located in Thi-Qar Governorate, south of Iraq during August 2024 to January 2025.Results: The study showed various strains detected in the specimens. The strains belonged to Canida albicans, C. krusei, C. glabrata. Contextually, 41 of the diabetic specimens were recorded positive while none-diabetic patients infected with UTI showed 18 positive manifestations and all specimens of healthy individuals revealed negative results. Conclusion: This research concluded that the various strains of Candida species can cause candiduria in patients infected with DM. | ||
